Once a year, the fashion scene in Halifax likes to gather and celebrate their local designers, we call this Atlantic Fashion Week. I had the honour of attending on behalf of What, When, Wear for their opening night and it was amazing!
The event was held in the beautiful Mercedes-Benz venue on Kempt Road. At 7:30 when the doors opened, the place started to quickly fill up as lovers of fashion and local supports took their seats. As the music came to a stop and the host began to speak, you could really sense the excitement in the atmosphere. It was nice to see a variety of designers of all different ages, race and sexuality come from the same place and show us what they are so passionate about.
The first show included designers such as Wear Your Label, Dustin McCormack - Clever & Clueless, Ashley Reading, Eman Mustafa, Donn Sabean, the ESME Original, Maggie MacCormack, Michelle Noseworthy, Anthony El-Cid, Perlae Couture and Mo Handahu - Clutch Culture.
As a stylist with a very broad sense of fashion and someone who is always up for new things, I absolutely loved the variety these designers had to offer. From Donn Sabean's earth tones to Dustin McCormack's edgy and raw clothing - the show included something for everyone.
This year's show featured a bar for drinks during intermission as well as a red carpet photographer to snap a shot of what YOU wore - awesome, I know! Although, I absolutely loved the way this first show was organized I would have to say that my favourite new feature of this year's show was the pop-up shop. The designers had all their items on a rack and ready to sell. It was perfect. I mean, who doesn't love to shop after a perfect fashion show?
I would like to also state that everyone behind the scenes did a phenomenal job as well; this including the Redken team, City Models, the many photographers/bloggers (alongside myself) in the media section and 101.3 The Bounce. Everything was so well done.
Below are a few of my favourite looks:
